Bushmills
Whiskey Distillery
The
village of Bushmills is home to the oldest whiskey distillery in
the world.
The
County Antrim village of Bushmills has a long and illustrious history
of whiskey production. Stories tell us that the troops of King Henry
II of England were more than happy to discover the unique taste
of Irish whiskey. Unable to pronounce the Gaelic Uisce Beatha
(Water of Life), they shortened it to Uisce and finally
to whiskey.
A
visit to the distillery includes a multi-media presentation, a tour
outlining the whiskey making process including the huge copper pots
used to distill the whiskey itself. A fascinating tour, presented
by distillery staff.
Of
course, no tour would be complete without the ubiquitous free taste!
Enjoy the fruits of Bushmills labour in their on-site testing bar.
