Belfast City Hall,
the seat of the Northern Ireland government up to the 1930's.
Built in distinctive Portland stone, City Hall was damaged during
the
Belfast Blitz in 1941. An interior of Italian marble gives the
City Hall
a grandiose feel, and it is also home to the only Titanic memorial
in Belfast City centre.
City Hall is closed to the public due to
renovation. Re-opens 2009. |
Albert Clock, named after Prince
Albert who was consort to Queen Victoria. Note it has a considerable
lean to one side, caused by a river that flows underneath
the clock. It is in fact this river from which Belfast derives
its name - Beal Feirste roughly translates as 'at the mouth
of the River Farset'.The clock was refurbished recently as
part of the Laganside Redevelopment Project (web link) and
the project was managed by Dawson Stellfox, the Irish man
to climb Mount Everest!

Lagan weir and Lagan Lookout
- Built to control the strong tidal differences which affect
the River Lagan, the Lagan Weir has transformed the riverside
environment into the most attractive place to live and socialise
in the city centre.
